Stephen Hendee’s Flag of North America 2058 CE. I found this image when a friend recommended I look at the work of artist Stephen Hendee. Hendee’s work is laced with sci-fi influences, especially dystopian and doomsday genres. I think this may influence my future work.

My homebrewing group supports my field research and artistic activity by buying-in on the beer we brew. I’ve made Christmas beers for the holiday season to give as gifts.

Art & Beer (At the Museum) is an event that combines drinking beer and experiencing art. For one night only, you can sample three new beers from Laurelwood, Lompoc, and Lucky Lab at the Portland Art Museum. A brewer from each of the three Portland microbreweries received a tour of the museum’s collection, selected an artwork, and made a beer that will complement that artwork. This beer sampling is part of a one night event called Shine A Light: A Night at the Museum

Drinking good beer inspires great conversation. Drinking beer with friends can be a catalyst for social change. I paired beers on hand-made serving trays as part of an social practice type art event in Portland, Oregon

For my contribution to Everyday Magic I am handmaking serving trays (see image above) that guests will be able to take home with them. On the serving trays I will be pairing beers for them that will match the food they are eating and the conversations they are having in the gallery. The idea behind my project is to show that the act of drinking beer with friends can be one that builds relationships and has the power for social change. Good beer makes for good conversation.

I’ve been having a great time with my project for Portland’s 2008 Time Based Arts Festival. The project is called “Drinking Beer With Friends And Working” which is exactly what it sounds like. It’s not a performance though so you don’t need to watch, it’s a social piece so you can come talk with me, [...]
